Avaia Dental Care is a family dentistry practice proudly rooted in the community and dedicated to caring for generations of smiles. From children visiting the dentist for the first time to parents, grandparents, and longtime patients, we strive to build lasting relationships through personalized, compassionate, and modern dental care.
Avaia (uh-vay-uh) comes from Greek and means “one of a kind.” It reflects a simple belief at the heart of our practice: every patient is unique, and their dental care should be too.

Dr. Michael Krumholz is a Minnesota native, having grown up in Owatonna. He has been practicing dentistry for over thirty years in the Minneapolis area. His dental practice thrives because he believes in treating each and every patient with compassion and meticulous attention to detail. He has repeatedly been named a “Top Dentist” by Mpls/St.Paul magazine. Dr. Krumholz is member of the Minnesota Dental Association, American Dental Association, and the West Suburban Seattle Study Club. Dr. Krumholz graduated cum laude from St. John’s University and went on to receive his D.D.S. at the University of Minnesota Dental School in 1986 where he received numerous honors including the Minnesota Society of Oral Surgeon’s Award of Scholastic Excellence, and the Omnicron Kappa Upsilon Award of Scholastic Excellence recognizing the top dental students.
He takes pride in continuing his education, always perfecting his skills, and providing state-of-the-art dental care for his patients.
When Dr. Krumholz is not busy perfecting your smile, you will find him outside on a ski trail training for his next Nordic ski race, golfing, fishing, or biking along one of Minnesota's great trails. He and his wife, LaDonna, have three daughters: Laura, Michaela and Bridget. Their oldest, Laura is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy as a naval pilot and now flies for FedEx. Their middle daughter, Michaela, is a Marquette University graduate and now has a Doctorate in Occupational Therapy from Saint Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa. Dr. Krumholz's youngest daughter, Bridget, is currently serving as a naval officer in San Diego, California.

Dr. Behdani was raised in Iran, where he earned his first Doctor of Dental Surgery degree and began practicing dentistry before moving to the United States. After arriving in Minnesota, he returned to dental school and earned his second DDS degree from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry. He likes to joke that having gone through dental school twice gives him “double the dental experience” and a unique perspective shaped by two different educational backgrounds.
Since graduating, Dr. Behdani has practiced throughout the Twin Cities metro area, caring for patients of all ages and from a wide variety of backgrounds. His commitment to continuing education has led him to pursue advanced training in implant dentistry, and he holds Associate Fellow status in implant dentistry. He is also a member of the American Dental Association (ADA), Minnesota Dental Association (MDA), and Academy of Implant Dentistry (AAID).
Dr. Behdani is honored to continue the exceptional standard of care that Dr. Brandness and Dr. Krumholz have provided to generations of patients. At the same time, he is excited to bring a modern perspective to the practice by incorporating contemporary techniques and technology while preserving the personal, relationship-based approach to dentistry that patients have come to know and trust.
Outside the office, Dr. Behdani enjoys traveling, volunteering, trying new foods, and spending time with his family and partner. He is also a proud dog dad to Louis and Daisy, his two beloved “doggos,” who keep life outside of dentistry plenty entertaining.

At Avaia Dental Care, your first visit is about more than checking your teeth, it’s the beginning of a relationship. We’ve created an environment where you can feel comfortable asking questions, sharing concerns, and being part of the decisions about your dental health. Whether you’re joining us for routine care, addressing a specific concern, or looking for ways to improve your smile, we want you to feel heard and cared for from the very beginning.
Getting to Know You
Every patient comes to us with a different dental history, different priorities, and different goals. Before recommending treatment, we take the time to understand yours. We’ll review your medical and dental history, discuss any concerns you may have, and talk about what you would like to achieve with your smile.
A Complete Look at Your Oral Health
Your first appointment is designed to give us a clear picture of your current oral health. Depending on your individual needs, your visit may include digital X-rays, an evaluation of your teeth and gums, periodontal measurements, an oral cancer screening, and a comprehensive examination with your dentist. When appropriate, a professional dental cleaning may also be completed during your visit.
Dentistry Designed Around You
Once we understand your dental health and your goals, we’ll discuss our findings with you in a way that is clear and easy to understand. If treatment is recommended, we’ll review your options together and develop a plan that considers your health, comfort, priorities, and long-term goals. We believe you should understand not only what we recommend, but also why we recommend it.
Before moving forward with treatment, our team will help you understand what to expect. We can assist with dental insurance claims, provide estimates for recommended care, and review available payment or financing options. Our goal is to make every part of your experience, from scheduling your first appointment to completing your treatment, as straightforward and comfortable as possible.
Welcome to Avaia Dental Care!
Thoughtful care. Modern dentistry. A dental home built around you.
The best way to prevent cavities is to brush your teeth twice a day, floss daily, and visit the dentist for regular cleanings and checkups.
A dental crown is a custom-made restoration designed to cover and protect a tooth that has been weakened, damaged, cracked, or heavily restored. Crowns can help restore the tooth’s strength, shape, appearance, and function while allowing you to comfortably chew and smile.
Crowns may be recommended for teeth with large fillings, fractures, significant wear, severe decay, or after root canal treatment. They can also be used to improve the appearance of certain teeth or as part of dental implant treatment.
Modern crowns are designed to look and feel natural, with materials and shades carefully selected to blend beautifully with your smile.
A root canal is a treatment used to save a tooth when the soft tissue inside it, known as the pulp, becomes infected or inflamed. This can happen because of deep decay, cracks, trauma, or other damage to the tooth.
During treatment, the infected tissue is carefully removed, and the inside of the tooth is cleaned, disinfected, and sealed to help prevent future infection. In many cases, a crown is recommended afterward to protect and strengthen the tooth.
Root canal treatment can relieve dental pain, eliminate infection, and preserve your natural tooth, helping you get back to eating and smiling comfortably.
Dental implants are a long-lasting and natural-looking way to replace missing teeth. An implant is placed in the jawbone to act like the root of a natural tooth and is restored with a custom-made crown.
Implants can help restore your smile, improve chewing, and maintain jawbone health. Whether you’re missing one tooth or several, our team can help determine if dental implants are the right option for you.
